Which? The UK’s consumer rights champion run by the Consumers’ Association have compiled list of the best small towns and villages in the UK by aggregating 9,000 Which? users reviews. The reader rated locations based on the criteria of peace and quiet, scenery, food and drink, shopping and attractiveness. The list only includes inland locations, there is a separate list for seaside towns.

1. Wells, Somerset
Overall score: 83%

Wells in Somerset is technically a city due to its beautiful 13th century cathedral in the heart of town. The town has a medieval street, independent stores as well as festivals and markets. Wells scored 5 out of 5 in attractiveness and tourist attractions due to its charm and independent spirit. Other attractions include The Bishop’s Palace and Gardens, Mendip Hills National Landscape, Wookey Hole Caves and many more.
